How often can I say that Racine Wisconsin is SO much more than meets the eye? Summer is officially here, which is why I’ve collected a list of my favorite activities, and my own personal summer bucket list items for a little hometown fun! This summer bucket list has a bit of all of the best things to do in Racine Wisconsin: beer, live music, beautiful nature, and delicious treats!
Places to Explore
There are SO many places to explore nature and really rejuvenate yourself in the woods with a walk/hike. If you’re big into the outdoors and love a little quality time with nature (like me!), it’d be a fun, personal goal to try to explore ALL of Racine’s parks and hiking grounds!
- Pritchard Park: 2800 Ohio St, Racine
- Riverbend Nature Center: 3600 North Green Bay Rd, Racine
- Sanders Park: 4809 Wood Rd, Racine
- Cliffside Park: 7320 Michna Road, Racine
- Quarry Lake Park: 3533 Northwestern Ave, Racine
- Lincoln Park: 2000 Dominic Dr., Racine
- Smolenski Park: 438 S. Stuart Rd, Racine
- Root River Parkway: 3630 Rapids Ct, Racine
Of course… these aren’t all of the events we have going on in this awesome town, but these are the ones I’m aiming to be at! If you see me at any of these, don’t be afraid to stop me to say hi!
I seriously LOVE pop-up events. One time only events are just so exciting for me, and you know there’s always so much heart and soul put into them! This pop-up biergarten is happening from Thursday, July 12 through Sunday, July 15 and it’s located at Smolenski Park! Biergartens are my favorite, so I will definitely be here (most likely for all the days…).
Smolenski Park: 438 S Stuart Rd
Being of German descent, I always try to make an effort to celebrate my heritage! Come down to the Harbor Lite Yacht Club from June 23-24 for killer awesome polka music, German bier, wein, und essen! (beer, wine and food…. German isn’t that hard *wink*)
Harbor Lite Yacht Club: 559 State St.
Church festivals are just so much fun! St. Rita Festival this year is from August 17 – 19. St. Rita Festival has a ton of really cool bands this year; live music is playing pretty much the entire weekend through.
St. Rita Parish: 4339 Douglas Ave.
Of course, it’s a must to add both of the big church festivals we have in town. You can head over to this festival from July 13 – 15th. Church festivals are really perfect for everybody: with games and rides for the kids, and live music and drinks for the adults! It’s a win/win for families and couples. You’re guaranteed to find someone you know.
St. Lucy Parish: 3101 Drexel Ave
Root River Kayaking
Kayaking is one of my favorite activities, and hilarious, as there is always some type of catastrophe that happens with me. No matter how packed my summer is, I make an effort to take a kayak or canoe out on the Root River! Since I don’t own either, I stop by Riverbend Nature Center to rent one and borrow a life jacket. It’s a pretty cheap activity at $15 an hour. (That is, if you’re me and get burnt easily and highly likely to forget sunscreen at all times. Ooops.)
Riverbend Nature Center: 3600 N Green Bay Rd
Skydiving at Skydive Midwest
Yes, I SO went there with this one. Skydiving definitely belongs on an ULTIMATE summer bucket list for Racine Wisconsin. Skydive Midwest is located in Sturtevant, and yes I can personally recommend this place because I crossed this off my bucket list in 2012, right before high school graduation. The employees at Skydive Midwest are awesome and super professional. If it’s a first time activity, tandem skydiving is your only choice (unless you’d like to take lessons.) Tandem skydiving is really a piece of cake: you’re strapped to a professional who does all the work for you. You just get to enjoy the view and the thrill!
Skydive Midwest: 13851 56th Rd, Sturtevant
Franksville Craft Beer Garden
One of my favorite activities as of lately is hanging out at a beer garden! The Franksville Craft Beer Garden is a permanent beer garden and brand new for 2018! All of their beers on tap are locally made in Wisconsin. (Obviously, you’re getting the good stuff!) Come for some summer fun with friends to enjoy a brew Maybe you’ll see me there. Keep up with their Facebook page to see upcoming activities and events they’ll host throughout the summer.
Location: 9614 Northwestern Ave in Franksville
Raiders Football Game
I can’t create a true Racine Wisconsin summer bucket list without adding a small piece from my childhood! I grew up going to Raider football games with my family. Admittedly, I’m not a huge football (or sports) fan, but it’s always fun to attend the games to spend quality time with family, friends, or even see who you may know at the game!
Live music downtown Racine
Racine is always full of live music in the summer! Naturally, every First Friday of the month you’ll see live musicians performing all along Main Street downtown. In this section, I’d like to highlight a few other specific events located right on Monument Square. What’s even better… they’re both free.
Music on the Monument
Every Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm during the summer months + September is when Music on the Monument occurs! Bring some snacks, your best friend, and enjoy the summer sunshine while listening to a live band.
Saturday Sounds on the Square
If you can’t make Music on the Monument on Fridays, stop by for Saturday Sounds on the Square! This event begins at 2 pm every Saturday featuring different bands of different genres: blues, jazz, R&B, rock, and more! You can also find free outdoor games to play and pop up food vendors.
Must Eat Treats
Enjoy a bit of Italian culture at Divino Gelato Cafe
After having just visited Italy in February (and eaten everything), I can definitely vouch for how similar Divino Gelato Cafe is to Italian gelato cafes. Though Divino offers a little more space to hangout (and enjoy live music during First Friday events), the gelato is very similar. They keep many of the same traditional Italian favorites in their case, such as pistachio, stracciatella, and lemon, as well as switching up the other flavors! The dishes are very similar, and the spoons used to eat the gelato are the exact same. Yep, Italian gelato cafes also have those cute, little shovel-esque spoons!
Location: 245 Main St
Seasonal kringle from O&H
Since Kringle is a staple in any true Racinian diet, I obviously had to add taste testing all of their summer seasonal flavors to my ultimate summer bucket list! Note: Don’t let the red, white, and blue specialty kringle fool you! It has the classic kringle look on the outside, but inside has a delicious cherry, cream cheese, and blueberry filling!
