Wisconsin has a plethora of fun activities across the state from cute little shopping areas, fantastic restaurants for big foodies, beautiful spaces for hiking, and breweries (all over the state!). Whether it’s spring or summer vacation, or you just have a free Saturday, these 10 Wisconsin weekend getaways are great for couples, families, or even on your own.
1. Hiking at Devil’s Lake State Park
One of my favorite places to be is out in nature in our beautiful woods. Devil’s Lake State Park is the perfect Wisconsin weekend getaway because it has great hiking trails for both beginner and experienced hikers. the views are stunning no matter where you go! Pack a picnic lunch, plenty of water, and even your swimsuit as they have lovely beaches all around the lake.
Madison Wisconsin is our beautiful capital that’s a quick 80 mile drive away from Milwaukee. It’s absolutely a must to tour the New Glarus Brewery or enjoy the nightlife and check out a few really cool bars. Downtown Madison even has a delicious (and unique!) food tour of food trucks!
3. Door County
Door County is a perfect weekend getaway destination for couples. It’s not only known for beautiful parks and scenery, but their wine life too! With so many wineries in the area, you really cannot go wrong. Try Door County Peninsula wine, Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery, Door 44 Winery or Red Oak Winery. Don’t forget to bring some bottles home! (How could you not!?)
Take a tour around to see the lighthouses. Have a picnic with a gorgeous view on Rock Island Beach, Schoolhouse Beach, Sand Bay, or even Sunset Park.
Racine is my beloved hometown and an extremely easy day trip from Milwaukee! Head to downtown Racine for delicious local restaurants, beautiful little shops, lovely locally made craft beer, and one of the best beaches in Wisconsin. We even have some hidden gems and [unique activities]. Whether you’re a stranger or not to Kringle, a stop to O&H Bakery is a must to pick a few up. Throughout the year, they offer specialty flavors for the different holidays and seasons. You never know what you’ll come across!
On a budget? Racine offers a multitude of fun activities for FREE or even cheap! It’s a win for everyone!
Kenosha is a beautiful town full of rich history, delicious restaurants, and a gorgeous beachside downtown area. Start your day off with a delicious latte from Common Grounds and enjoy the view of the lake on the patio. Take a walk down by the lake and enjoy public art sculptures. They switch out the sculptures every two years, and they’re always so creative and colorful! Enjoy nature and the fresh air at Petrifying Springs Biergarten with a beer or a glass of wine! If you’re a local pub fan, you can’t go wrong with Uncle Mike’s Pub or Captain Mikes!
6. Adventures in Lake Geneva
Lake Geneva is an adorable little town that’s PACKED full of activities. Visit their safari and see bison, yak, llamas and alpacas, antelope and so much more! Tour the city on a scooter, get an adrenaline rush up high while ziplining, on a canopy tour, or even in a hot air balloon!
Cedarburg is an adorable little town, and another fantastic option for a romantic getaway in Wisconsin for couples! There’s such a lovely, quaint atmosphere around this town. Not to mention the wineries, such as Cedar Creek Winery and Chiselled Grape Winery, definitely add to that vibe! Cedarburg has many specialty stores perfect for gifts (for yourself or others! Or both 😉 )
Milwaukee is the perfect weekend getaway in Wisconsin whether you’re on spring break looking for family-friendly activities, a beer lover wanting to check out the local brews, or a lover of all things local! The Milwaukee Public Market (above), located in the Third Ward, is great for all things local! Have lunch there, pick up some locally made cheese, enjoy a coffee or freshly-made juice. Milwaukee offers many diverse restaurant options, multiple local breweries both big and small, fun museums for kids and unique bars such as Safehouse and Nine Below.
